Israeli cybersecurity firm Dream Security revealed that Iran conducted a sophisticated cyberattack targeting diplomatic communications involved in the Gaza ceasefire talks. The operation, attributed to the Iranian-linked "Homeland Justice" hacker group, focused on infiltrating the email account of an Omani Foreign Ministry employee and sending malicious Word documents disguised as official diplomatic correspondence to roughly 200 recipients, including Egyptian officials, U.S. and Qatari mediators, and international organizations. Once opened, the malware enabled Iranian hackers to monitor communications, read correspondence, and record conversations, indicating a shift from previous Iranian cyberattacks toward disrupting or influencing diplomatic negotiations. Dream Security utilized AI-powered tools to track and map the full scope of the attack, identifying the threat actors and their operational infrastructure. The firm emphasized that this cyber operation merges the cyber and diplomatic realms, reflecting a broader regional espionage effort amid heightened geopolitical tensions and potentially impacting the Gaza ceasefire process.
