The relationship reportedly involved unwanted sexual encounters, with Nori allegedly using drugs and manipulation to maintain his influence. Whibley confided in his ex-wife, Avril Lavigne, about the abuse, who affirmed that it constituted sexual abuse. Nori has denied the allegations, calling them false and stating he has retained a defamation lawyer. The band parted ways with Nori in 2005 after Whibley finally began to distance himself from the toxic relationship.
