Man Killed by Shark at Popular Sydney Northern Beaches
A man died after being attacked by a large shark at Dee Why Beach on Sydney's northern beaches, near Long Reef, during a junior surf competition. Emergency services retrieved the man from the water with critical injuries, but he died at the scene. Following the attack, authorities closed beaches from Manly to Narrabeen as a precaution, and experts are investigating the species of shark involved. Witnesses reported a rapid emergency response, including multiple ambulances and a Westpac emergency helicopter. Police have cordoned off the area, and sections of the surfboard were recovered for analysis. The incident has caused significant concern, prompting ongoing closures and investigations by New South Wales police and the Department of Primary Industries.
