Singapore Man Sentenced 20 Years for Step-Granddaughter Sexual Abuse

A 69-year-old man in Singapore was sentenced to 20 years in prison for raping and sexually assaulting his step-granddaughter multiple times when she was nine to ten years old. The victim, who lived with her grandmother and the offender, developed post-traumatic stress disorder and engaged in self-harm before disclosing the abuse to a school counselor in 2020. The assaults occurred from 2016 to 2017 while the man lived with the victim and her grandmother, with all three sharing a single room. The victim's biological father had been incarcerated since 2010, and she had never met her mother, leaving her grandmother as her primary caregiver. The offender pleaded guilty to charges of rape and sexual assault by penetration, with additional charges taken into consideration during sentencing. The court described the man's actions as "wicked," noting the profound psychological harm inflicted on the victim and the betrayal of trust within the family.
