Mass Funeral Held for Flood Victims in Bosnia

A collective funeral was held in Jablanica, Bosnia, for 19 victims of devastating floods and landslides that struck early October, resulting in at least 26 deaths. Thousands attended the service led by Husein Kavazovic, the Grand Mufti of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, who emphasized the need to remember the victims and support their families. The floods, triggered by torrential rains, caused significant destruction, isolating communities and leading to ongoing rescue efforts for the missing. In a separate disaster, officials in Papua New Guinea reported over 100 fatalities from a recent earthquake and landslides, highlighting the broader impact of natural disasters in the region. The Bosnian government declared October 15 a Day of Mourning, and preparations for the burials were conducted with great respect and dignity. Neighboring countries and the EU have offered assistance in response to the calamities.
