Jacob Gutierrez Sentenced to 27 Years for Child Sexual Assault
Jacob Gutierrez, a 35-year-old man from Elgin, has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13. Found guilty of four counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Gutierrez's sentence includes 24 years for the assault charges and three years for the abuse charges, which is the minimum sentence allowed. The victim reported the abuse to a trusted adult, prompting a notification to authorities. Gutierrez must serve at least 85 percent of his 24-year sentence and 50 percent of the three-year sentence, receiving credit for 722 days already served in jail. He is also required to register as a sex offender for life. Prosecutors had sought a longer sentence of 65 years, reflecting the severity of the crimes committed against the child.
