Federal Investigation Nears NYC Rep Ocasio-Cortez Over Illegal Staff Hiring

Border Czar Tom Homan has confirmed that a federal investigation is underway into Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) over allegations that she employed an undocumented immigrant, Diego de la Vega, on her congressional staff and allegedly helped others evade Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Homan emphasized that it is not possible for an undocumented immigrant to legally work in Congress, and stated that aiding in evading ICE arrests is a prosecutable crime under federal statute. De la Vega, who self-deported to Colombia in March, had served as Ocasio-Cortez's Deputy Communications Director after years of undocumented status. The investigation was initiated following claims that Ocasio-Cortez educated individuals on how to avoid ICE detection, which Homan said equates to educating people on how to be prosecuted. While no official charges have been filed, ICE has been directed to thoroughly investigate the case. Additionally, Homan has called for a Department of Justice investigation into CNN's coverage of an app that alerts users of nearby ICE activity, criticizing it as endangering law enforcement officers and enabling undocumented immigrants to evade capture.
