Democrats Withdraw Support from Trump Impeachment Effort

However, the move quickly lost momentum as several Democratic co-sponsors withdrew their support, stating they were mistakenly added or that the articles had not been properly reviewed by party leadership. The Democratic leadership has expressed reluctance to pursue impeachment at this time, emphasizing a lack of confidence that House and Senate Republicans would take such proceedings seriously. The effort has sparked internal discord among House Democrats, with many viewing it as premature and counterproductive. Previous impeachment attempts against Trump during his first term resulted in acquittals by the Senate, and with Republicans currently controlling the House, any new impeachment effort is unlikely to succeed. Nevertheless, some Democrats, including Representative Al Green of Texas, continue to signal intentions to pursue impeachment in the future.
