Maryland Trooper Injured, Impaired Driver Arrested on Capital Beltway
Early Thursday morning on the Capital Beltway near Route 1 in Maryland, Damien Arnold Haman, 42, of Fort Meade, was arrested after driving under the influence and causing a chain-reaction crash that injured a Maryland State Police trooper. The incident occurred during a routine traffic stop when Haman's Dodge Charger struck the rear of a trooper's vehicle, which was parked behind another squad car attending to the stop, pinning the trooper between the two vehicles. The injured trooper was hospitalized at the University of Maryland Capital Regional Medical Center but has since been released. Haman was also hospitalized briefly before being taken to the Prince George’s County Department of Corrections and faces multiple charges including driving under the influence, reckless driving, and negligent driving. A second trooper involved in the stop was unharmed. Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
