Notre Dame Suspends Men’s Swim Team for Gambling

Notre Dame has suspended its men's swimming program for at least one year following an investigation that uncovered widespread gambling violations among team members. The probe, conducted by the law firm Ropes & Gray, revealed that team members were betting on their own performances, which is strictly prohibited by NCAA rules. Athletic Director Pete Bevacqua cited the need to rebuild a culture of dignity and respect as a reason for the suspension. While coaches and staff were found unaware of the misconduct, the team culture was described as deeply dismissive of Notre Dame's standards. Swimmers will be allowed to transfer, although they may face NCAA sanctions. The women's team and diving teams remain unaffected by the suspension.
