Suspect Arrested in Chicopee Trooper Hit-and-Run
A Massachusetts State Police trooper with over ten years of experience was seriously injured early Tuesday morning after being struck by a hit-and-run driver during a traffic stop on I-90 westbound near Exit 51 in Chicopee. The trooper was transported to Baystate Medical Center with serious but non-life-threatening injuries and is reported to be in stable condition. Naisha Rodriguez, 32, of Springfield, was later identified and arrested as the suspect in the incident. Rodriguez faces multiple charges, including operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, misleading a police investigation, leaving the scene of a crash causing personal injury, intimidating a witness, and falsely reporting a vehicle stolen. She was arraigned in Chicopee District Court with bail set at $500,000, and a pre-trial hearing is scheduled for July 10. The State Police Association has renewed calls for motorists to move over or slow down near emergency personnel, and the investigation remains ongoing.
