Naomi Girma Returns to USWNT Roster for China, Jamaica Friendlies

Defender Naomi Girma will return to the U.S. women's national team for the first time in 2025, joining a 24-player roster for upcoming friendlies against China and Jamaica. Girma, who had been sidelined with calf injuries, recently returned to fitness after helping Chelsea win the Women’s Super League and FA Cup. Head coach Emma Hayes emphasized the camp's role in testing new players and building squad depth ahead of future competitions, calling up three uncapped players, including Orlando Pride defender Kerry Abello and Kansas City Current midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta, who could become the oldest USWNT debutant at 32. The roster also includes several young talents and returning veterans such as Olivia Moultrie and Lynn Biyendolo, reflecting a transitional phase for the team post-2023 World Cup and 2024 Olympics. Hayes highlighted the need for creativity against different opponents and praised the consistency of players in league play. Additionally, goalkeeper Claudia Dickey, who has attended previous camps, was called up with a chance to make her first start, showcasing Hayes’ ongoing experimentation with goalkeeping options.
