Maui Doctor Charged with Attempted Murder at Cliff Edge

Gerhardt Konig, a 46-year-old anesthesiologist from Maui, has been charged with second-degree attempted murder after allegedly attacking his wife, Arielle, on the Pali Lookout Trail in Oahu. The incident reportedly occurred after Arielle refused to take a selfie with him near a cliff edge. Konig is accused of pushing her, striking her head with a rock multiple times, and attempting to inject her with syringes containing an unknown substance. Arielle managed to escape and was found in serious condition, requiring hospitalization for head and facial injuries. Konig fled the scene, leading to an hours-long manhunt before he was apprehended. He has been suspended from his position at Maui Health while the investigation continues, and he faces life imprisonment with the possibility of parole if convicted.
