Reliance Jio Ends Free IPL Streaming, Launches Subscription Plans

Reliance Jio has announced the end of free streaming for Indian Premier League (IPL) matches, introducing a new subscription model that starts at ₹299 for mobile users. This change follows two years of complimentary access to the IPL on the JioCinema platform. The matches will now be available on the newly merged JioHotstar streaming service, a collaboration between Reliance and Disney. In addition to the subscription, users will receive a 50-day trial of Jio's broadband internet services. The IPL is a major event in India, scheduled to take place from March 22 to May 25, and the shift to a paid model comes as Reliance seeks to boost its home internet business amid rising costs for media rights. Mukesh Ambani's pricing strategies in the cricketing sector are closely monitored, particularly given the significant investments in media rights by the Reliance-Disney joint venture.
