Dennis Schroder Named Germany's Flag Bearer for Olympics

Dennis Schroder has been named the flag bearer for Germany at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking a significant honor for the NBA star. Alongside judoka Anna-Maria Wagner, Schroder, who captained the German basketball team to a gold medal at the FIBA World Cup 2023 and was named MVP, is one of only two German flag bearers without prior Olympic experience. His selection was influenced by a fan vote, where he triumphed over other notable athletes, including tennis player Alexander Zverev. Schroder has expressed the importance of this honor, highlighting his heritage as a Black man with a Gambian mother. Despite his recent successes on the international stage, he has faced challenges in the NBA, having played for multiple teams since 2020 without significant accolades. The German Olympic Sports Federation will officially announce the flag bearers at an upcoming press conference.
