The U.S. Justice Department has filed a $100 million lawsuit against Grace Ocean Private Ltd. and Synergy Marine Group, the owner and manager of the cargo ship Dali, which caused the deadly collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. The lawsuit claims that the ship's mechanical and electrical systems were poorly maintained, leading to a catastrophic power failure that resulted in the deaths of six construction workers. Justice officials allege that the companies prioritized profit over safety by operating an unseaworthy vessel with an ill-prepared crew. The incident, which occurred in March, halted maritime traffic and required significant federal funds for recovery efforts. Grace Ocean has stated that they look forward to defending themselves in court. Meanwhile, an ongoing criminal investigation by the FBI remains uncertain regarding potential further actions.
