Men Plead Guilty to Murder of Ripudaman Malik

Tanner Fox and Jose Lopez have pleaded guilty to second-degree murder for the killing of Ripudaman Singh Malik, a Sikh businessman acquitted in the 1985 Air India bombing case. Malik was shot dead outside his Surrey, British Columbia business on July 14, 2022, and the two men admitted to being hired for the murder but did not disclose who paid them. The case has garnered attention due to rising tensions between Canada and India, especially following allegations of Indian government involvement in the assassination of Sikh activists. Malik was previously acquitted of charges related to the 1985 bombing that killed 329 people, making it Canada's deadliest terrorist attack. Malik's family expressed their grief over his death and emphasized that justice is incomplete until those who hired the killers are also held accountable. Both defendants are scheduled for sentencing on October 31, 2024.
