Support for TikTok Ban Dropping Among US Adults
Support for a TikTok ban in the U.S. has significantly decreased, with only 34% of Americans now in favor, down from 50% in March 2023, according to a Pew Research Center survey. Opposition to the ban has risen to 32%, while concerns about TikTok being a national security threat have also diminished, now at 49%. Both Republican and Democratic support for a ban has declined, with Republican backing dropping from 60% to 39% and Democratic support from 43% to 30%. Among TikTok users, only 12% favor a ban compared to 45% of non-users. As the April 5 deadline approaches for a potential sale of TikTok, several bidders are emerging, including Oracle, while President Trump has hinted at possibly extending the deadline if needed. Democratic lawmakers have criticized Trump's management of the situation, advocating for a collaborative approach with Congress.
