International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Khan has urgently requested the issuance of arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, citing ongoing criminal acts and the worsening situation in Palestine. This follows Khan's earlier requests in May for the warrants due to alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes related to the October 7 Hamas attacks and Israel's military response. Netanyahu condemned Khan's actions as a moral disgrace and antisemitism, while Khan expressed frustration over delays in the court's decision-making process, emphasizing the need for swift action to protect victims' rights. The ICC’s Pre-Trial Chamber is currently reviewing various legal briefs submitted regarding its jurisdiction over Israeli nationals, which has contributed to the delays. Khan has withdrawn the warrant request for late Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh but maintains the request for Mohammed Deif, pending confirmation of his reported death. Should warrants be issued, immediate arrests would only occur if the accused enter one of the 123 countries that recognize ICC jurisdiction.
