Preacher jailed for life

Anjem Choudary, a notorious radical Islamist preacher, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum of 28 years for directing the banned terrorist organization Al-Muhajiroun (ALM) and encouraging support for it through online platforms. Judge Mark Wall described Choudary as playing a 'front and centre' role in the organization, which has been linked to multiple terrorist attacks. The court found that Choudary normalized violence and radicalized individuals, leading to his conviction following a joint investigation by UK, US, and Canadian law enforcement. Despite his defense claiming ALM was nearly defunct, the judge emphasized its continuous operation under various names, including the Islamic Thinkers Society. Choudary's previous conviction for supporting ISIS and his extensive history with ALM illustrate the ongoing threat posed by his activities. He will not be eligible for release until he is 85 years old, reflecting the severity of his crimes.
