Man Charged After Aberdeen Player Injured by Thrown Seat at Dundee Match
A 31-year-old man, David Gowans, has been charged with culpable and reckless conduct after Aberdeen defender Jack MacKenzie was struck in the face by a piece of a plastic seat thrown from the Aberdeen supporters' section during a Scottish Premiership match at Tannadice Park. The incident occurred following Aberdeen's 2-1 defeat to Dundee United, after which fans invaded the pitch to celebrate United's fourth-place finish and European qualification. MacKenzie sustained serious facial injuries requiring medical treatment and was taken off the pitch in a wheelchair with a bandaged head. Gowans appeared in Dundee Sheriff Court, made no plea, and was granted bail with a condition barring him from attending any Aberdeen matches. Police and football authorities condemned the act, emphasizing that such dangerous behavior will not be tolerated and thanking the public and clubs for their assistance in the investigation. MacKenzie, who was an unused substitute during the match, is out of contract with Aberdeen at the end of the season.
