Kerstetter, who passed away due to injuries sustained in a traffic accident while on duty. Kerstetter, who joined the Michigan State Police in January 2023, was previously an assistant equipment manager for the Detroit Red Wings and a licensed builder. The incident occurred on September 13 when his vehicle was rear-ended during a traffic stop, leading to critical injuries that resulted in him being taken off life support. Governor Whitmer and the community have expressed deep condolences to Kerstetter's family, noting his dedication to public service and his role as a family man. Flags will return to full-staff on Saturday, September 21.
