Coast Guard Searches for Five Missing After Boat Capsizes

A fishing boat named Wind Walker capsized off Point Couverden, Alaska, early Sunday morning, with an estimated five crew members aboard, although this number has not been confirmed. The vessel issued a mayday call at 12:10 a.m. but did not respond to subsequent communications from the U.S. Coast Guard. Rescue efforts are ongoing, hampered by severe weather conditions including heavy snow, 45-60 mph winds, and six-foot seas. The Coast Guard has deployed an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and a response boat to the search area, assisted by the ferry AMHS Hubbard, which was in the vicinity when the mayday was broadcast. Seven cold-water immersion suits and two strobe lights have been located in the water, raising concerns about the crew's fate.
