Massachusetts Becomes First State to Ban Single-Use Plastic Bottles

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey has announced an executive order to prohibit state agencies from buying single-use plastic bottles, making Massachusetts the first state to implement such a ban. Healey emphasized the threats of plastic waste and plastic production to the environment and climate change during her speech at the Clinton Global Initiative. She also outlined plans to establish biodiversity conservation targets and protections to combat species extinction. Democratic presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy has also proposed a 10-point plan to tackle plastic pollution, including support for an international plastics treaty and a ban on fracking.
