Disney Secures Full Hulu Control for $9B

Disney has finalized its acquisition of Comcast’s remaining 33% stake in Hulu for an additional $438.7 million, bringing the total payout to $9 billion and ending a protracted appraisal dispute. The deal, expected to close by July 24, 2025, gives Disney full control over Hulu, which now has more than 54 million subscribers. Disney has managed Hulu since 2019 following its acquisition of 21st Century Fox. The company plans to integrate Hulu’s content with Disney+ and ESPN’s direct-to-consumer platforms, aiming for an enhanced, seamless streaming experience. Despite the large transaction, Disney does not anticipate an impact on its fiscal 2025 earnings guidance. Comcast acknowledged Hulu’s past value, and Disney shares have risen, with analysts expressing continued optimism.
