In the recent parliamentary elections in Jordan, the Islamist Action Front (IAF), a political arm of the Muslim Brotherhood, made significant gains, winning 31 out of 138 parliamentary seats, tripling its representation. This success is attributed to growing public anger over the ongoing Israel-Hamas war and a new electoral law that enhances the role of political parties, allowing the IAF to secure a fifth of the seats. IAF Secretary-General Wael al-Saqqa expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them by the Jordanian people and emphasized the party's commitment to mobilizing support for Palestinian rights. Despite this historic win, the IAF still falls short of a majority, and the parliament remains primarily dominated by tribal and pro-government factions. Voter turnout was relatively low at 32.25%, reflecting the overshadowing impact of regional conflicts on the electoral process. While this election marks a step in Jordan's democratization efforts, most political power still resides with King Abdullah II, who retains control over government appointments and parliamentary dissolution.
