NHS Fife Nurse Cleared of Misconduct in Transgender Doctor Dispute

Nurse Sandie Peggie, who was suspended after raising concerns about sharing a female-only changing room with transgender doctor Dr. Beth Upton at NHS Fife, has been cleared of all gross misconduct allegations following an 18-month investigation. The allegations included misgendering Dr. Upton and issues related to patient care, but NHS Fife found insufficient evidence to support any misconduct. Peggie's lawyer expressed relief over the conclusion of the internal process, which ended the disciplinary proceedings against her. Meanwhile, Peggie is pursuing an employment tribunal against NHS Fife and Dr. Upton, citing sexual harassment and discrimination related to protected beliefs under the Equality Act 2010. This case follows a UK Supreme Court ruling clarifying that the Equality Act's definition of "woman" and "sex" refers to biological sex. The tribunal is set to resume hearings after the internal disciplinary process was closed.
