IndiGo, India's largest airline, is set to lease six Boeing 737 MAX aircraft from Qatar Airways, marking its first use of Boeing narrowbody jets amid operational challenges due to over 70 grounded aircraft. The new lease arrangement, which is part of a strategy to manage its fleet and maintain efficiency, will allow IndiGo to operate flights to and from Doha and is expected to free up six of its own aircraft for other routes. Currently, IndiGo primarily operates Airbus A320 family aircraft and has already been using damp-leased Boeing 777 jets from Turkish Airlines. With Qatar Airways leasing two-thirds of its 737 MAX fleet to IndiGo, this partnership highlights significant operational flexibility for the Indian carrier. The decision comes at a time when IndiGo is also exploring additional leasing options to mitigate aircraft shortages caused by ongoing supply chain and engine issues.
