Johnny Depp to Star in Paramount's Ebenezer
Johnny Depp is set to return to major-studio filmmaking as Ebenezer Scrooge in Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol, a dark, psychological retelling of Charles Dickens’ novella directed by Ti West for Paramount, with a planned November 13, 2026 release. Andrea Riseborough is attached to co-star, Nathaniel Halpern wrote the script, and Emma Watts is producing with Stephen Deuters and Jason Forman serving as executive producers. Deadline and other outlets describe the film as a gothic, eerie, “thrilling ghost story,” and it marks Ti West’s first big-studio outing. The project would be Depp’s highest-profile studio role since 2018 and is widely seen as a major comeback after his 2022 defamation trial and recent indie projects such as Jeanne du Barry and Minamata. Paramount’s scheduling has the film in direct competition with Robert Eggers’ A Christmas Carol starring Willem Dafoe, with Depp’s version expected to hit theaters first.
