Xiaoqin Yan Briefly Escapes from FCI Danbury

Xiaoqin Yan, a 30-year-old Chinese national, briefly escaped from FCI Danbury, a low-security federal prison in Connecticut, before being recaptured by local police 45 minutes later. Yan, who was serving an 8.5-year sentence for illegally possessing a firearm and committing arson at the First Baptist Church of Montgomery in Alabama, activated a security device upon her escape. The FBI is conducting an investigation into the incident. Yan's past conviction involves setting fire to the church in 2021, causing significant damage, and her behavior prior to the incident had been described as unusual by church staff. She had overstayed her student visa, which was revoked following her arrest. An attorney who represented her in Alabama has been contacted for comments.
