Iran, EU3 Resume Nuclear Talks in Geneva

High-stakes nuclear talks between Iran and the E3 (UK, France, Germany) are scheduled to resume in Geneva on January 13, aimed at reviving the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi stated that these discussions are intended as 'talks, not negotiations,' focusing on clarifying issues and potential frameworks for future negotiations. This follows years of stalled progress since the U.S. withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018, leading to increased tensions and Iran's gradual reduction of compliance with the deal. The E3 recently expressed concerns over Iran's rising stockpile of enriched uranium, which has reached levels close to those needed for nuclear weapons. Gharibabadi emphasized Iran's commitment to peaceful nuclear energy, insisting there is no ambition to develop atomic weapons.
