Teacher Enoch Burke Jailed for Contempt

Enoch Burke, an evangelical Christian teacher, has been jailed for the third time for contempt of court after repeatedly violating a court order to stay away from Wilson’s Hospital School in County Westmeath, Ireland. Burke, who publicly objected to addressing a transgender student by their preferred pronouns, was initially suspended in August 2022 and later fired. Despite his dismissal, he continued to show up at the school, leading to multiple arrests and over 400 days in Mountjoy Prison. The court has scheduled another hearing for October 11th, but Burke refuses to comply, claiming his religious beliefs are being suppressed. The school asserts his presence is disruptive, while Burke's supporters argue he is standing up for his religious rights.
