Jake Allen, 34, has signed a five-year, $9 million contract with the New Jersey Devils, carrying an average annual value of $1.8 million and running through his age-39 season. Allen, considered the top available goaltender in a weak free agent market, chose the Devils for long-term security despite higher offers elsewhere. Last season, he posted a .906–.908 save percentage, a 2.66 goals-against average, and demonstrated reliability as a backup, stepping up during Jacob Markstrom's injury.
