Michael Gaine Case Now Homicide; Powers Expanded

Irish police have upgraded the disappearance of Kerry farmer Michael Gaine, missing since March 20, 2025, to a homicide investigation, granting authorities expanded investigative powers. Gaine, 56, was last seen in Kenmare, and his car and personal belongings were later found at his farm, but his remains have not been discovered. Nearly 130 witness statements have been collected and 2,200 hours of CCTV and dashcam footage reviewed, but significant leads remain elusive. Gardaí suspect Gaine was unlawfully killed and continue to appeal for information, urging hesitant witnesses to come forward. The Kenmare community has been deeply shocked by the reclassification, as hopes for a different outcome have faded. This case marks the second time in under a year that a missing person case in Ireland has been reclassified as homicide without the recovery of the victim's remains.
