Former Officer J. Alexander Kueng Released from Prison
J. Alexander Kueng, a former Minneapolis police officer convicted in connection with George Floyd's death, is set to be released from federal prison on Wednesday after serving a three-and-a-half-year sentence for aiding and abetting manslaughter. Kueng, who was also sentenced for violating Floyd's civil rights, will return to Minnesota under supervised release until March 2026. His involvement in Floyd's death on May 25, 2020, was part of a larger incident that sparked nationwide protests against police brutality. Kueng's release follows that of fellow officer Thomas Lane, and he was one of four officers implicated in the case. Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd's neck, is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence for murder and civil rights violations. The case led to significant reforms and discussions about policing in America.
