Suspect Charged in Vernon Hills Shooting

Jhonattan Garcia-Nava, a 36-year-old man from North Chicago, was charged with attempted first-degree murder after a shooting at the Hawthorn Hills Square Shopping Center in Vernon Hills, Illinois. The incident occurred Thursday evening, resulting from a dispute between co-workers, and left a male victim critically injured with multiple gunshot wounds. Garcia-Nava was apprehended early Friday morning in Waukegan by the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System’s Emergency Services Team. The shopping center was closed for several hours following the shooting but has since reopened. Authorities have confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the community and are continuing their investigation. Additional charges are pending against Garcia-Nava, with a detention hearing scheduled for Monday.
