Foreign Office Issues 'All But Essential' Travel Warning to Tunisia Amid Terror Threats

While the FCDO no longer advises against travel to the archaeological site of Chemtou, it continues to warn of a high global threat of terrorist attacks targeting UK interests and nationals, emphasizing vigilance for British travelers. The warning follows a series of terrorist incidents in 2023, including fatal stabbings in Tunis and a deadly shooting at a Jewish pilgrimage site on Djerba island, resulting in multiple casualties. Tunisia remains a popular destination for British tourists due to its scenic coastlines, historic sites, and affordability, but these new security concerns have led to tightened travel guidance. Visitors are urged to stay aware of their surroundings and avoid restricted areas to ensure their safety.
