Mariel Colón, formerly a defense lawyer for drug kingpin Joaquín 'El Chapo' Guzmán, has transitioned to a music career under the stage name 'Mariel La Abogada.' Her latest video, 'La Señora,' features Guzmán’s wife, Emma Coronel, and leverages her past associations to gain attention in the regional Mexican music scene. Colón, who began working for Guzmán in 2018, continues to visit him in prison and shares her new music with him. Despite the controversy surrounding the narco-culture depicted in her music, Colón insists her work provides a deeper narrative about the humanity of those involved. Coronel, recently released from prison, has found opportunities in modeling, including participating in Milan Fashion Week. Colón plans to release her first record in December, aiming to capitalize on the rising global popularity of regional Mexican music.
