Focus Features Begins Filming Sense and Sensibility UK
A new film adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel Sense and Sensibility is in production, with Daisy Edgar-Jones starring as Elinor Dashwood and Esmé Creed-Miles as her sister Marianne. The movie, directed by Georgia Oakley and written by Diana Reid, aims to bring a fresh, modern perspective to Austen’s 1811 story of sisterhood, love, and societal expectations. The cast also includes Caitríona Balfe as Mrs. Dashwood, George MacKay as Edward Ferrars, Fiona Shaw as Mrs. Jennings, Frank Dillane as John Willoughby, Herbert Nordrum as Colonel Brandon, and Bodhi Rae Breathnach as Margaret Dashwood. Produced by Focus Features and Working Title Films, the adaptation follows the legacy of previous Austen adaptations like Pride and Prejudice (2005) and Emma (2020). This film marks the first major studio remake of Sense and Sensibility since the acclaimed 1995 version directed by Ang Lee. With the period drama genre gaining popularity among younger audiences, the production hopes to resonate with contemporary viewers by combining stylized costuming, socially aware writing, and fresh talent both in front of and behind the camera.
