Russian forces in Ukraine

Russian forces have captured two front-line villages, Vovche and Prohres, in Ukraine's eastern Donetsk region as part of an aggressive summer offensive. This advance is seen as a significant gain, marking Russia's last major territorial achievement in nearly three years of conflict, despite Ukraine's reports of ongoing fierce resistance. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the situation in Donetsk as 'extremely challenging', as Russian troops are also intensifying assaults near the strategic city of Pokrovsk, a critical supply route for Ukrainian forces. Ukrainian military officials reported 52 Russian attacks in the Pokrovsk area within a single day, highlighting the intensity of the fighting. In retaliation, Ukraine has targeted Russian infrastructure in the Kursk region to hamper military operations.
