Jim Thorpe Award Semifinalists Include 15 Players

Ohio State's Caleb Downs, a key player in their highly ranked defense, has been named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award, recognizing the best defensive back in college football. Downs, who transferred from Alabama, has made significant contributions with 31 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss in seven games this season. Similarly, South Carolina's Nick Emmanwori and Texas' Jahdae Barron have also been named semifinalists, showcasing exceptional performances with Emmanwori leading the SEC in interceptions and Barron achieving a career-high in interceptions. The list of semifinalists includes 15 players, with finalists set to be announced on November 26. The Jim Thorpe Award, established in 1986, evaluates players based on their on-field performance, athletic ability, and character. The winner will be revealed on December 12, 2024.
