Chinese Man Charged in Elder Fraud Scheme

Li Biao, a 30-year-old illegal foreign national from China, was arrested for attempting to scam an 84-year-old woman in Canton, Michigan. Posing as a 'senior fraud officer' from her bank, Biao convinced the victim to withdraw substantial cash, which he intended to collect through a supposed coworker. The scam took place over four days, leading to two successful cash pickups before the victim's family noticed suspicious banking activity and alerted the authorities. On December 17, police arrested Biao as he attempted to collect $25,000 from the victim's home. He faces charges of fraudulent false pretenses and assaulting/resisting police, with a bond set at $100,000. Authorities emphasize the need for vigilance among families of the elderly to prevent financial exploitation.
