Wave of Bronx Shootings Leaves Multiple Casualties

Over the past few days, the Bronx has seen a wave of gun violence, with five separate incidents resulting in multiple casualties. On Saturday night, a double shooting near Sheridan Avenue and McClellan Street left 31-year-old Sakou Saho dead and a 49-year-old man injured. Earlier in the week, Rafael Vasquez and Mahmudo Jabbi were both fatally shot in separate incidents, contributing to the borough’s rising number of shooting victims, which has increased from 285 in 2023 to 302 in 2024. Despite this spike in non-fatal shootings, overall murder rates in the Bronx have declined from 97 last year to 75 this year. No arrests have been made in connection with the recent shootings, except for the apprehension of Kelvin Mata, who was charged with murder in one of the earlier incidents. Community members and authorities are calling for more information to help solve these cases.
