India Monitors Safety of Deportees in Panama, Costa Rica

India is coordinating with authorities in Panama to ensure the safety of Indian migrants deported from the U.S. as part of a strict immigration policy under the Trump administration. Nearly 300 deportees, including individuals from India, are currently at a hotel in Panama, where they are receiving medical assistance and food while awaiting repatriation. The Indian embassy has confirmed their safety and has gained consular access, while also verifying the nationality of around 50 presumed Indians. Meanwhile, Costa Rica has agreed to accept deportees from the U.S. and will serve as a temporary holding location for migrants from various countries until their return to their homelands. This arrangement is part of a broader U.S. strategy to manage illegal immigration through regional partnerships with countries like Panama and Guatemala. The repatriation process is being overseen by the International Organization for Migration, with funding from the U.S. government.
