Tombstone Deputy Shoots K-9 After Attack
A deputy marshal in Tombstone, Arizona, shot and killed his K-9 partner, Hawk, after the dog attacked him and latched onto his leg, causing serious injuries. The incident occurred at the Tombstone Marshal’s Office, and Deputy Marshal John Cody attempted to separate himself from the dog by partially closing a bathroom door. Unable to get the K-9 to release its grip, Cody resorted to using his service weapon, and Hawk died at the scene. Cody was airlifted to a Tucson hospital for treatment but has since been released and placed on medical leave. The Cochise County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation with assistance from a Tucson expert. Tombstone Marshal Jim Adams expressed confidence in a thorough and objective evaluation of the incident, emphasizing the value of their K-9 program and handlers.
