Gabriel Medina Photo Wins World Sports Award

French photographer Jerome Brouillet's stunning image of Brazilian surfer Gabriel Medina, captured during the 2024 Paris Olympics in Teahupo’o, has won the prestigious World Sports Photography Awards. The photograph, which portrays Medina seemingly suspended in mid-air, has been celebrated for its artistic and athletic brilliance, marking a significant moment in sports photography. Over 2,200 photographers from 96 countries submitted more than 13,000 images in this year's competition, which features various sports categories. Brouillet's image was noted for its unique ability to combine action, artistry, and emotion, further solidifying the impact of sports photography. Other notable awards were given to Petr Slavik for silver and Anton Anestiev for bronze, with a total of 24 winners recognized. The awards aim to celebrate the compelling stories that sports photography can tell through powerful imagery.
