UMass Lowell Orders Campus Shelter in Place Searching Armed Suspect
The University of Massachusetts Lowell issued a campus-wide shelter-in-place order in response to reports of a man suspected of carrying a firearm on campus. Law enforcement, including UMass Lowell police, Lowell city police, and Massachusetts State Police, are actively searching for a 5'5" Asian male wearing a gray or white sweatshirt and black shorts, reportedly carrying a long weapon near the Riverview Suites dormitory. A video circulating on social media appears to show an armed individual walking near the dormitories, heightening concern and urgency in the investigation. No shots have been reported fired, but the university has advised all students and staff to remain indoors and stay alert while the search continues. Authorities have urged anyone with information to contact them, and emergency notification systems have been used to keep the campus community informed throughout the incident. The situation remains ongoing with coordinated efforts between campus and local law enforcement agencies.
