The Southern Miss Alumni Association will honor seven distinguished alumni during its Homecoming 2024 festivities, celebrating their contributions to various fields and their alma mater. Inductees include Gary Carmichael, Kevin Giddis, Julie J. Gresham, and others, who exemplify the spirit of giving back to the university. Meanwhile, in Springfield, Massachusetts, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame inducted its Class of 2024, featuring legends like Chauncey Billups and Vince Carter among 13 new members. Harley Redin, a pioneering women's basketball coach who passed away in 2020, was also posthumously honored during the ceremony. The event was marked by emotional speeches and reflections from the inductees, celebrating their journeys and achievements in basketball. Additionally, the Hutcherson Flying Queens Foundation launched a fundraising campaign to commemorate Redin's legacy, aiming to raise $18,000 in 18 days.
