Renesas Launches 64-Bit AI MPU for Advanced Edge HMI Systems
Renesas Electronics Corporation has launched the 64-bit RZ/G3E microprocessor (MPU), designed for high-performance Human Machine Interface (HMI) applications across industrial and consumer sectors such as factory equipment, medical monitors, retail terminals, and building automation. The MPU integrates a quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 running at up to 1.8GHz, a Cortex-M33 core, and an Ethos-U55 Neural Processing Unit (NPU) to deliver efficient AI inference for tasks like image classification, object and voice recognition, and anomaly detection while minimizing CPU load. It supports smooth Full HD (1920×1080) video playback at 60fps on two independent displays, with multiple output interfaces and a camera input interface for vision applications. The RZ/G3E offers comprehensive high-speed connectivity, including PCI Express 3.0, USB 3.2 Gen2, and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, enabling robust edge computing and seamless cloud integration. With low power consumption and extended temperature range, the MPU is suitable for demanding industrial environments and supports a Linux-based software stack with long-term maintenance. Renesas emphasizes that the RZ/G3E expands their AI embedded processor portfolio and provides a scalable platform for next-generation HMI applications incorporating vision, voice, and real-time analytics.
