Sam Hou Fai Elected Chief Executive of Macau

Sam Hou-fai has been elected as the sixth-term Chief Executive of Macau, receiving 394 out of 400 votes from the election committee, representing 98.5% of the total votes cast. This election marks the first time a leader of Macau has been born in mainland China. Sam expressed his deep commitment to serving Macau and emphasized his goals of economic diversification, public service reform, and improving residents' livelihoods. He aims to uphold the principles of One Country, Two Systems and ensure the healthy development of the casino industry. The election results will be submitted for confirmation by the Court of Final Appeal, and Sam will officially take office on December 20, 2024. Outgoing Chief Executive Ho Iat-seng did not seek re-election due to health concerns.
